Goldsmith 'expressed doubt' on Iraq

A letter by the Government's top law officer to Tony Blair expressing doubts over the legality of the Iraq war eight months before the invasion has been submitted to the official inquiry, it was reported.
The Mail on Sunday said the July 2002 memo from then Attorney General Lord Goldsmith was among evidence handed to the Chilcot inquiry, which is due to grill the former prime minister about his role in the New Year.
It was reported to have said that war could not be justified on the grounds of regime change, national self-defence or humanitarian intervention and that it would be hard to rely on previous United Nations Security Council resolutions.
