Foot-and-mouth restrictions lifted
Updated on 24 August 2007
The protection zones around two farms at the centre of the foot-and-mouth outbreak have been lifted, it has been announced.
A surveillance zone remains in place around the farms in Surrey, while a temporary three-mile biosecurity area has been imposed around the two animal health research laboratories at Pirbright which are at the centre of the investigation into the cause of the outbreak.
Chief Vet Debby Reynolds said the biosecurity zone was a precautionary measure to ensure enhanced vigilance among vets and animal keepers.
