Sir Ranulph Fiennes is another step closer to achieving his bid to conquer Mount Everest.

The 64-year-old adventurer is aiming to climb the world's highest peak to raise funds for the UK based Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Sir Ranulph suffered a heart attack during his first unsuccessful, attempt to scale the mountain in 2005.

He has just come back from his final acclimatisation climb and is hoping to depart Base Camp for the summit on Sunday.

Base Camp, used in Sir Edmund Hilary's 1953 expedition is built at height of 18,370ft, deep in the Himalayas.

Sir Ranulph's other feats include reaching both poles, crossing the Antarctic and Arctic Oceans, leading the first hovercraft expedition up the Nile and running seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.
