Detectives have been granted extra time to question a man and a woman arrested after a police officer was run down while trying to arrest a fraud suspect.

The hit-and-run happened as Detective Constable Catherine Corbett and three other officers, all from West Midlands Police, attempted to detain a man outside the Sheraton Skyline Hotel, near Heathrow Airport in west London on Friday.

The police officer remained in a critical condition. Det Con Corbett, 39, of Solihull, West Midlands, was hit as a suspect reversed away from the scene in a blue Peugeot 207.
