Eurostar trains: 'new snow shields' fitted
Updated on 21 December 2009
Eurostar has said new snow shields should protect its trains from water causing further electrical problems, that have prevented its trains running for a third day in a row.
Eurostar passenger trains were suspended for a third day further disrupting Christmas travel plans.
A spokesman for the company said they had identified the problem which left more than 2,000 passengers trapped in the Channel Tunnel overnight on Friday.
Modifications to its trains are due to be tested before any passengers services can resume.
A statement on Eurostar's website said:
"We understand how frustrated and disappointed travellers will be, particularly those who have been waiting to travel for the last two days."
The company now believes it has found the cause of the problem and hopes to resolve the fault soon:
"We will be testing the trains with the new modifications in the deteriorating snow conditions," he said.
"On the assumption that that works, then we hope to be able to make an announcement on the resumption of service."
