Ebay bid for Lord's title reaches £3m
Updated on 08 August 2008
A lord who has put his title and property up for sale on Ebay has received bids over £3 million.
There have been a total of 154 bids on the internet auction site for the Lord of Warleigh's lot - with the latest standing at £3,020,100.
The Lord of Warleigh - 58-year-old David Piper - values the lot at up to £6 million.
He said: "I am interested in finding out how genuine they are, that is the main problem. I am not surprised at the size of the bid, I always intended to get over £3 million."
He said that illness is behind the decision to put his lifestyle up for sale.
He said: "I have decided, as a result of having this rather advanced prostate cancer, and not having been able to work since January 2007, to have treatment done in London."
He added: "Therefore I will sell everything up down here and move back to London."
Up for internet auction is his manorial title as well as six acres of freehold land at Great Warleigh Farm, Tamerton Foliot, near Plymouth, Devon.
Lord Warleigh said he was also selling his family trust's collection of over 140 items of contemporary art.
The sale lot also includes a "waterside residence" on Plymouth Hoe - featuring nine en-suite rooms, a 42-foot sitting room with views towards the Channel, and a 42-foot dining room.
There are also two flats with six en-suite bedrooms - four with sea views - and furniture including a chamber organ.
He is also selling two Bentleys - a Continental Flying Spur with 1,600 miles on the clock, and a 1994 Brooklands model.
