Arts organisations across the country are due to learn if they are to lose crucial Arts Council funding.

Nearly 200 groups have been threatened with the withdrawal of grants, leaving many facing the prospect of closure. They submitted appeals last month and Arts Council England and the organisations will receive letters by special delivery informing them of their fate.

Chairman Sir Christopher Frayling has indicated that some will be granted a reprieve.
