A footballer accused of causing the deaths of two young boys by dangerous driving has appeared in court.

Former Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick is charged with causing the deaths of ten-year-old Arron Peak and his eight-year-old brother, Ben.

He is also charged with driving with excess alcohol.

The 25-year-old former England youth international appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

The case was adjourned until October, when McCormick will enter pleas to the charges.

The young brothers, from Partington in Manchester, were killed in a crash on the M6 in Staffordshire in June.

Their father was driving them and three friends to Silverstone racetrack for a day out.

But they were involved in a collision with a black Range Rover shortly before 5.45am.

The boys' mother Amanda Peak sat in court next to her wheelchair-bound husband Phil, who suffered serious injuries in the crash.
