Customs workers begin overtime ban
Updated on 06 July 2009
Thousands of Revenue and Customs workers are due to begin a ban on overtime in a row over job cuts.
The Public and Commercial Services union said the department was having to rely on routine overtime as well as temporary staff after cutting almost 19,000 jobs in the past three years.
Millions of pounds were spent in the last financial year on overtime, said the union, adding that the money would be better spent on hiring permanent staff.
