Canoe death fraudsters repay scam money

Anne Darwin who helped fake the death of her husband in a supposed canoeing accident offers to repay almost £600,000 she made in insurance fraud.

At Leeds Crown Court today lawyers for Anne Darwin offered to repay £591,838. John Darwin will pay a nominal sum of a £1.
The couple were found guilty of fraud last year and prosecutors now want to confiscate their assets of under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
The pair started a new life in Panama after Mr Darwin faked his death in 2002 - but were discovered when a photograph of them there turned up on the internet.
The jury in the trial last year heard how the Darwins had conned not only the authorities but also their sons.
Both Anna and John Darwin were sentenced to over six years in jail for the scam last year.
