Boy, 16, murdered in bakery
Updated on 10 May 2008
A boy has been murdered in a bakery the day after his 16th birthday.
Jimmy Mizen was found with serious neck injuries at Three Cooks in Lee, south-east London shortly before noon on Saturday.
Paramedics and the air ambulance were called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses said another teenage boy who was in the shop with Jimmy became aggravated after being asked to leave and smashed a window.
Jimmy reportedly intervened to try to calm the situation down and the boy attacked him with a knife.
The suspect was then seen to run off, leaving Jimmy to die in front of his brother, according to reports.
Neighbours said Jimmy, who had several siblings, turned 16 yesterday.
He is the 13th teenager to be murdered in the capital so far this year.
Detective Chief Inspector Cliff Lyons said: "This is another tragic incident where a young victim has lost his life, and our sympathies are with his family and friends.
"There was an argument between Jimmy and the suspect, following which Jimmy was assaulted and he sustained serious neck injuries.
"The suspect, described as a male youth, made off from the scene up Burnt Ash Hill towards Burnt Ash Lane.
"I would urge anyone who was in and around the Burnt Ash Hill area at the time of the incident to call us at our incident room with any information they may have."
