BBC2 digital switchover in region

Seven million viewers across the North West of England have been taking part in the biggest overnight change in UK television history as they welcome in the digital era.

The digital switchover was due to begin in the Granada TV region in the early hours of Wednesday as analogue BBC2 is turned off.

The remaining analogue channels of BBC One, ITV1, Channel 4 and Five will also be permanently switched off four weeks later on December 2 from households served by the Winter Hill transmitter.
