A backward step from the Queen?

By tradition, you are not meant to turn your back on the Queen, instead, you are expected to walk backwards.

But Buckingham Palace has confirmed to us today that this is no longer the case - you're free to turn your back if you wish.

They insist it's not a new change - but its revelation is, at the very least, one more sign of a monarchy that no longer feels able to set firm rules for its subjects.

So if you're seeing the Queen this evening, are there any rules at all?
