56,000 jobs at risk in three cities
Updated on 09 January 2009
Three of the UK's leading cities could lose over 50,000 jobs, more than 5% of the total, over the next three years if the recession digs deep into the economy, a new report has predicted.
Leeds, Brighton and Bristol will lose jobs in financial services, retail and manufacturing, predicted research group Centre for Cities.
If the recession is mild, the three cities will lose 21,000 jobs, but the figure will be 56,000 if the economic downturn is worse, said the report.
