If this country had a national sport - it would most likely be football - but at the moment there will be no UK team at the London Olympics in 2012. Fifa is deciding this week whether to allow members of the four national teams to come together - but it's not that simple.


Former England player Teddy Sheringham says it wouldn't make much difference to the final team line-up whether they take part or not.

Britain hasn't competed in Olympic football since 1972 and the last team to win was the English national amateur team, who won gold back in 1908 and 1912. The football associations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all oppose the idea.

Former England player Teddy Sheringham says it wouldn't make much difference to the final team line-up whether they take part or not.

Gordon Brown thinks all such worries can be resolved - and he hinted that there may already be plans about who would manage a UK team.
