Tevez eyes big European move
Updated on 19 May 2007
Carlos Tevez has set his sights on signing for "one of Europe's biggest clubs" after playing a key role in keeping West Ham United in the top flight.
The 23-year-old Argentina striker scored seven goals in ten games, including last week's crucial winner at champions Manchester United, to ensure the Hammers will be playing in the Premier League next season.
But he appears unlikely to remain at Upton Park and has been quoted as saying: "I really want to join one of Europe's biggest clubs. That's what I've talked to my representatives about.
"I don't know about the interest from Real (Madrid) but it makes me happy that such an important club is interested in me. But at the moment there still isn't a concrete offer."
Despite his apparent intention to leave, the former Corinthians forward is glad he came to England, adding: "People at West Ham were incredible with me and I'll never forget that. But of course I would like to get a chance at a big club.
"For the English fans to shout 'Argentina, Argentina' for me as they did at Old Trafford is unexplainable. That they see me as an idol is fantastic."
Tevez arrived at Upton Park last August with compatriot Javier Mascherano, who has since joined Liverpool, in deals that an independent commission found to be in breach of rules regarding third-party ownership - with Tevez's economic rights owned by Kia Joorabchian.
The Hammers were fined a record £5.5 million but their relegation rivals insist a points deduction would have been appropriate and are still pursuing an investigation into Tevez's eligibility to participate the Hammers' escape from relegation.
