John Terry has been ruled out of England's World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.

The Chelsea defender has hardly trained with his team-mates this week because he has been struggling with a back injury.

Now England manager Fabio Capello must choose whether Matthew Upson or Joleon Lescott should take Terry's place at the heart of the England defence.

Capello said: "It is a problem in the back for John Terry but we have plenty of players, we have the substitutes, I am sure the substitute for John Terry will play well."

But Capello has not yet ruled Terry out of the qualifier against Belarus on Wednesday.

He added: "I don't know, it depends on his back, if he can train a bit the day after tomorrow."
