Scotland 'not up to World Cup standard'
Updated on 20 November 2008
Argentina coach Diego Maradona warned Scotland they need to improve to play at the World Cup in 2010.
Maradona was given a warm reception at Hampden Park for his first game as Argentina boss and he led the visitors to a 1-0 victory.
But Argentina dominated the match and Maradona admitted George Burley's team were not good enough to make an impact in South Africa.
He said: "Scotland are a fine side, they have good players but we had a different level of skill. They will have to raise their game. It will be difficult."
Maradona is treated as a hero wherever he goes because he was the greatest player of his generation and scored some incredible goals in the 1986 World Cup.
In Scotland, he was given a special welcome because of the 'hand of God' goal he scored against England during the quarter-finals of the tournament.
He clearly enjoyed the reception and hinted he might return once he has settled into his new job.
He said: "I would like to take the opportunity to say to the Scottish press that I have not had enough time here. I would like to come back and spend more time.
"I have to spend time lifting the morale of the squad. I have managed to do that.
"There were a lot of great performances and we can be hopeful of what lies ahead for us. I'm a very proud manager."
