Scolari sacked by Chelsea
Updated on 09 February 2009
Felipe Scolari has been sacked as Chelsea manager, the club announced this afternoon.
The club said the 60-year-old had been fired "to maintain a challenge for the trophies we are still competing for".
A statement said: "Unfortunately the results and performances of the team appeared to be deteriorating at a key time in the season.
"The search for a new manager has already started and we hope to have someone in place as soon as possible."
Brazilian Scolari was appointed last summer as the replacement for Avram Grant.
Chelsea currently sit fourth in the Premier League, but are a long way adrift of leaders Manchester United. However, they are through to the knock out stages of the Champions League.
Assistant Ray Wilkins will take charge of team affairs on a temporary basis.
