The Rugby Football Union (RFU) will continue its misconduct investigation into England's recent tour of New Zealand, despite the woman at the centre of a sexual assault allegation opting not to make a formal complaint against four players.

The unnamed quartet, who have strongly denied any wrongdoing from the outset, discovered on Friday that Auckland police are unable to pursue a case against them following the woman's decision.

The woman's solicitors, Chapman Tripp, also sent a letter to the RFU stating she was unwilling to "deal directly" with Twickenham disciplinary chief Judge Jeff Blackett, who nevertheless intends to complete his probe.

The RFU released a statement which read: "The RFU disciplinary officer, His Honour Judge Jeff Blackett, has received correspondence from the solicitors Chapman Tripp in New Zealand.

"He is considering the contents of the letter and his investigation is continuing. No date has been set for the completion of the investigation."
