Liverpool boss to sign new deal
Updated on 07 November 2008
Rafa Benitez today revealed he hoped to sign a new contract within the next week.
The Liverpool boss said he had received a "positive" phone call from the club's owners and hoped a new deal could be thrashed out quickly.
He said: "I got a phone call from Tom Hicks on behalf of George Gillett. It was positive and very simple for me.
"I am happy and in the place I want to be. In the next week they will talk to my advisors and everything will be sorted out then.
"The length of the contract is the most important thing. We have a new stadium coming - the team is improving - everything is going well. I want to be part of this club in the future."
Benitez said that Fernando Torres would feature in the squad to face West Brom this weekend, while there had also been a special visitor to Anfield - Argentinean legend Maradona.
The new Argentina boss had come to check up on midfielder Javier Mascherano.
He added: "It was difficult to know what was happening because everyone was so excited to see him!"
