League tribunal to probe Tevez affair

Premier League officials have agreed to set up an arbitration tribunal to rule on Sheffield United's complaints over the Carlos Tevez affair.

The League has conceded that the Blades do have the right to call for an arbitration panel, but has told the men from Bramall Lane that they are wasting their time and money.

Sheffield United were relegated from the Premiership to the Championship after suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic on the final day of the season which also saw the Hammers cement their top-flight status with a 1-0 win at champions Manchester United.

And they are set to pursue their claim that the independent commission should have docked West Ham points and that the League should have cancelled Tevez's registration.

The row is over an independent commission's decision to fine West Ham £5.5 million rather than dock the club points for signing third-party agreements in contravention of League rules.

Tevez, meanwhile, is reportedly being offered to Chelsea in a deal that could cost the men from Stamford Bridge a British record £35 million.

The 23-year-old Argentina hitman revealed at the weekend that he wanted to play for one of Europe's top clubs.
