Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear follows in a long tradition of sportsmen losing their cool, as Channel 4 News online explains.

Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear launched a foul-mouthed tirade during his first weekly meeting with the national press this week.

The five-minute outburst featured more than 50 swear words, as the 61-year-old threatened reporters with legal action and stadium bans for stories they had written.

Channel 4 News online looks at other instances of rude and angry sportsmen.

1. Ronnie O'Sullivan

Snooker's bad boy stunned the media in Beijing with a string of swear words and lewd remarks during a press conference in China.

He sniggered as Chinese reporters asked him about his form, before joking: "F***ing hell, this is the longest question in the world."

2. Hal McRae

The baseball coach went for reporters after his side lost 5-3 to the Detroit Tigers in 1993. He told journalists he was "tired" of their "f**king stupid-assed questions" before proceeding to throw objects around the room and demand that they leave.

3. Mike Grundy

The American football coach was visibly seething with rage when he turned up for a press conference for his Oklahoma state team. He was fuming about a newspaper story relating to his young quarterback.

"The newspaper is garbage, and the editor that let it come out is garbage," he raged, among other angry assertions.

4. Greg Rusedski

The tennis player's image took a turn for the worse during a centre court match with Andy Roddick in 2003.

During the change-over, Rusedski ranted at the umpire: "I can't do anything if the crowd f*****g call it. Absolutely f*****g ridiculous. At least replay the point. F*****g ridiculous. F*****g ridiculous. It's f*****g ridiculous. Frigging ridiculous. Some w****r in the crowd changes the whole match. Well done. Well done. Absolutely s**t."
