Is Kevin Nolan Everton or Liverpool?

Updated on 14 November 2008

Bolton manager Gary Megson has risked the wrath of star midfielder Kevin Nolan by telling a press conference the scouser is a massive Everton fan.

Despite knowing the 26-year-old is a Liverpool supporter - he was in Istanbul to see his boyhood heroes win the Champions League in 2005 - Megson told reporters that Nolan was a "big blue".

Bolton face Liverpool at the Reebok tomorrow, and ahead of the game Megson mischievously claimed: "He's [Nolan] a proper scouser.

"All his family is from around that area and still live there and he's proud of his roots. He will see it as a huge game for himself.

"He supported Everton as a kid and he's a big blue - so he will want to do well."

Bolton have climbed the table after back-to-back wins against Manchester City and Hull.

However, Megson was quick to point out that he felt they were facing an impressive Liverpool side.

He said: "Years ago they were the yardstick for everyone throughout Europe and I think they are close to getting back to that.

"There is no-one in their starting line-up that you would point to as having a weakness."
