Manchester United chief executive David Gill insists Cristiano Ronaldo will still be at the club next season.

Spanish champions Real Madrid have made it clear they would like to sign Ronaldo and there have been suggestions the Glazer family that owns United might be willing to cash in on their most valuable player.

But Gill is adamant Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford.

He said: "He's got a long-term contract, why would he leave one of the best clubs in Europe? We see no reason for him to leave and I'm sure he does not either.

"He doesn't need to reassure us at all. Sir Alex Ferguson would be the person to speak to him but I don't think that's necessary, I just see Cristiano's attitude around the players and the team room now, when I speak to him about his successes this season, I think there is absolutely no necessity whatsoever to speak to him.

"He's on a long-term contract at one of the best, if not the best, clubs in the world. So why would he leave? It's not something that gives us sleepless nights at all. Unequivocally, Cristiano will be at our club next season."
