Everton have been fined around £5,000 for the behaviour of their fans during the away leg of their Uefa Cup tie against Fiorentina.

An arrest was made after a violent incident between a group of fans and riot police in Italy when several fans tried to enter the stadium without tickets.

It is the second time Everton have been punished for the behaviour of their supporters during the Uefa Cup run.

They were also fined because several Everton fans invaded the pitch after the away win over Brann.

Everton spokesman Ian Ross said: "The behaviour of our supporters during our Uefa Cup campaign was, on the whole, exemplary.

"But this fine just serves to underline what can happen if a small number of so-called fans decide to let down both themselves and their club."
