England cricket in disarray
Updated on 07 January 2009
The ECB accepts "with regret" the resignation of England captain Kevin Pietersen, acknowledging an irretrievable breakdown between Pietersen and England coach Peter Moores.
England cricket captain Kevin Pietersen and coach Peter Moores both reportedly resigned after a public falling out.
The resignations come just two weeks before the team set off on a tour of the West Indies and months before facing the 'old enemy' Australia in what looked to be a winnable Ashes series.
It looks like a row over team selection triggered the falling out between England's flamboyant and talented captain Pieterson and the coach Moores.
Pietersen is said to have quit last night after failing to secure the backing of the executive team of the England and Wales Cricket board.
