Are Britain's 2012 Olympic medal hopes slipping away already? Private sector funding of athletes is nowhere near the £100 million target.

The government is not even "out of the starting blocks" in its bid to raise £100m from the private sector for elite sport and its hurting Britain's medal chances in 2012.

That was the charge from the influential public accounts committee today but the government insisted they were making progress in discussions with various businesses interested in sponsorship deals.

But as Lucy Manning reports many of the athletes hoping to compete in the 2012 games have not seen anything like the funding they need.
