Usain Bolt proved he is back on top form by beating rival Asafa Powell in the 100 metres final at the Jamaica National Championships.

The sprinters are the fastest two men in the world, so there is extra anticipation when they race each other, and Bolt reacted with a time of 9.86 seconds in Kingston, 0.11 seconds faster than Powell.

Bolt, who set the world record at 9.69 seconds as he won gold at the Olympics in Beijing last year, said: "I would say Asafa is coming into shape and that is a good thing, his ankle is getting better. It is going to be a good season, as soon as he gets into shape it's going to be very interesting."

Bolt and Powell could face competition this year from the American Tyson Gay who recently ran 9.75 seconds but Bolt insists Gay has a long way to go catch the Jamaicans.

He added: "Personally, no disrespect to Tyson but that is going to be a hard for task for him.

"Tyson is more of a 200 runner than a 100 runner so it is going to be very hard. He had a lot of wind assistance for that time. It is going to be very hard for him."
