Arsenal Ladies are European champions
Updated on 29 April 2007
Arsenal Ladies have been crowned European champions after a 0-0 draw with the Swedish club Umea.
The Gunners had won the first leg of the Uefa Women's Cup final 1-0 courtesy of a last-minute goal by Alexandra Scott in Sweden.
In the return at Boreham Wood, the Gunners held firm to become the first-ever English team to win the title.
Arsenal manager Vic Akers said: "They brought some more attacking players on and made it difficult but you can't take anything away from us.
"We've been in this competition for five of the six years, an outstanding record, and it's a massive boost for the game in Great Britain that the trophy has been taken out of Scandinavia and Germany.
"We should see more kids playing now and an improvement higher up."
