World urged to tackle food crisis
Updated on 03 June 2008
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urges the world to seize an "historic opportunity to revitalise agriculture".
Mr Ban told a UN-sponsored summit in Rome on the crisis that food production would have to rise by 50 per cent by 2030 to meet demand.
His call came amid warnings that soaring food prices could trigger a "global catastrophe", with 100 million people being pushed into hunger.
