Soldiers on the British Army Rumour Service give their verdict on RAF Wittering's orders to not wear uniform in public.
Sparky: "I guess they were called crabs or told there bums looked big in their skirts."
Jelly Fish: "Giving the rest of us a bad name, should those civvies in uniform, the RAF, be allowed to wear uniforms at all?"
Royal Mile: "If they were RAF movers then the abuse would be from soldiers whose R&R was screwed up by RAF plans constantly suffering from "technical problems" in the likes of Singapore, Naples and Dubai."
Dog-faced-soldier: "Does Peterborough have a large "religion of peace" population? Or is there an Army camp nearby? Either would give a suitable explanation to abuse of RAF personnel."
Action Today: "The RAF police need to be out in force patrolling the streets as a strong and visible presence backing up and protecting their people, not advising that they cowardly hide their service as though in shame."
Rockpile: "Not sure who I dislike the most. The spineless Group Captain or the people doing the insults. One thing is certain HM forces going into hiding is not the right way of dealing with this. The comments - particularly by the septics - at the end of the artice seem accurate and concise."
Rebel with a cause: "If ethnic minorities start abusing troops in uniform (yes I know the article doesn't say they were ethnics but I'm making a reasonable asumption) then this should be treated as a racial incident (after all it would be if roles were reversed)."
Spanner: "Hey, at least we now know that ignorance and stupidity truly unites our communities! Something in common at last!"
Mr C Hinecap: "Nobody would go to Peterborough if they didn't have to and I'd certainly not go there in uniform. I know I can look after myself too. Peterborough is 10 miles from the nearest base and this is a low level issue blown out of all proportion."
