All UK police forces should have a unit to investigate rape allegations, a top police officer urges.
Police forces across the country should set up dedicated teams to investigate rape allegations, according to a top police officer.
The Metropolitan Police's Assistant Commissioner John Yates said the current conviction rate, just six percent, was far too low and the care and treatment of rape victims should be more consistent.
The West Yorkshire force said today it was setting up one such unit, staffed by 35 specialist officers. But is the idea the right way to bring more rape prosecutions to court?
