Tackling the scourge of gang crime

As the home secretary announces new witness protection measures to combat gang violence, there are questions over figures suggesting firearm injuries have been halved.
Britain's inner cities are bearing the brunt of gun and knife crime.
Now the home secretary has announced that witnesses who want to give evidence against gangs will be given anonymity immediately to protect them from reprisals.
The home office said schemes to tackle gun crime in four cities had halved the number of firearms-related injuries.
But closer analysis of its figures shows that firearms incidents actually increased in two of those areas.
