The government releases figures which show that Subutex, an addictive heroin substitute in pill form, is the third most misused drug behind bars.

It has said that the drug would now be added to the list of those routinely tested in all prisons.

The survey was actually conducted in July last year and Channel 4 News has been trying to obtain the very same figures since October under the Freedom of Information Act.

Until last week the government was still saying it would not be in the "public interest" to reveal data.

Subutex should be used only with medical supervision to help addicts, but in now being widely abused in prisons.
