Should luggage security now be relaxed after plane bomb plot trial ends?
Updated on 09 September 2008
Britain's airlines and airports operator tell government to think again now their alleged plot to blow up planes is unproven.
British Airways and the country's largest airport operator are urging the government to review hand luggage restrictions - after a jury failed to reach verdicts on charges of conspiracy to bomb passenger planes in mid-flight.
BA and BAA said ministers should look at the ban on large quantities of liquids. The changes to airline security were brought in because ministers claimed there was a plot to blow up transatlantic flights.
The Department of Transport told this programme it was right for the ban to remain in place.
But yesterday a jury was unconvinced such a plot ever existed. Three men were convicted of conspiracy to murder, but jurors didn't reach verdicts on allegations that they were planning the biggest terrorist attack since September the 11th.
So do we still need the restrictions or is it now too late to go back?
