Updated on 21 July 2008
Police in Portugal are expected to announce that their inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has been closed.
The investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is shelved and her parents no longer considered as suspects.
Portugal's attorney general said the authorities had found no evidence that the couple had committed any crimes. A third Briton, Robert Murat, has also had his status as a formal suspect, or "arguido", lifted.
In a statement Kate and Gerry McCann said they were relieved to be cleared of any involvement, but stressed there was "no degree of celebration".
