Parents in some parts of the country will be able to find out if anyone with access to their child is a convicted sex offender.

A Home Office pilot scheme will allow police to release details if they think a child may be at risk.

The year-long trials are a response to demands for a law allowing more information to be published about where paedophiles live following the murder of eight-year-old Sarah Payne by a man already convicted of sex offences.
