Police are investigating two attempted abductions of young girls in the Birmingham area.

Although both incidents occurred within a 24-hour period, police no longer believe they were been linked.

The police were out this morning appealing for information on the same road where yesterday a 12-year-old girl was snatched and dragged into a car.

She was walking down Sutton New Road in Erdignton when a vehicle approached her. Police are now looking for a white man in his thirties, wearing glasses.

Although both incidents occurred within 24 hours, police no longer believe they were been linked.

West Midlands police had initially linked the abduction with another attempted kidnap on Phillimore Road in Birmingham on Sunday. A nine-year-old girl ran off after a driver tried to get her into his car.

Like yesterdays abduction. the man is described as being in his thirties, driving a green car. But witnesses said he was of Asian appearance.

Parents taking their children to school this morning admitted they had been scared by the two abductions in the space of two days.

Schools in Birmingham are now being visited by police officers.
