Police gave Menezes 'no warning'

By Andy Davies

Updated on 30 October 2008

Eyewitnesses contradict the testimony of two firearms officers at the inquest into the death of Jean Charles de Menezes.

Train passengers sitting next to Jean Charles de Menezes when he was shot dead have told the inquest into his death that they did not hear officers shout "armed police" before they fired their guns.

Their evidence directly contradicts the testimony of two firearms officers, who insisted they did shout that warning before shooting the Brazilian at point blank range, believing him to be a suicide bomber.

It is the first time that these ordinary people who shared the train carriage on that day in July 2005, have ever spoken in public about their ordeal.
