Ofcom finds that Channel 4's Undercover Mosque programme was unlikely to incite criminal activity.

Channel 4 has attacked as "perverse' the decision by West Midlands police to complain to the media watchdog about a Dispatches documentary, Undercover Mosque.

Ofcom has now rejected the complaints, saying the programme was a legitimate investigation about extremism.

The production company involved has told Channel 4 News they are considering legal action against the police.

Earlier this year West Midlands police reported Channel 4 to Ofcom after investigating whether any criminal offences had been committed by the preachers - and found they had not. Channel 4 was alleged to have edited the documentary in a way that changed the meaning of the preachers' comments.

Today Ofcom said it had found no evidence to suggest the programme was likely to encourage or incite criminal activity.

The regulator said that the broadcaster had accurately represented the material it had gathered and dealt with the subject matter responsibly and in context.
