There will not be a Sangatte 2. That was the message today from the Home Office after the Home Secretary John Reid met his French counterpart.

It's five years now since Sangatte - a Red Cross camp for migrants outside Calais - closed under pressure from the British government, anxious to restrict illegal cross-Channel migration.

The French government says it will allow charities to provide facilities on a new site - but the British government says those facilities must not amount to a new Sangatte.

These negotiations are - arguably - irrelevant. The flow of migrants to the Calais area continues, almost unabated. For More 4 News, Francois Bringer has been finding out why.
