A jury finds the Metropolitan police guilty of endangering the public over the shooting of Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes.

Mistakes don't come more deadly than shooting the wrong man. That is what happened when the Metropolitan Police mistook Jean Charles de Menezes for a suicide bomber after trailing him through south London, cornering him on a tube train and shooting him dead.

Today they were found guilty of endangering the public and fined £175,000. The judge said the officer in charge of the operation was not personally to blame.

But he accused the Met of putting people at risk by failing to stop a potential suicide bomber from boarding public transport.
