It had been hoped that a photo of a small blonde child taken by a Spanish tourist in Morocco was Madeleine, but it was revealed yesterday that the girl was a five-year-old Bushra Binhisa, the daughter of a local olive farmer.

Kate McCann's aunt, Janet Kennedy, said the couple had seen their hopes of a sighting dashed before.

Mrs Kennedy spoke today as she joined charity volunteers to package up more than 2,000 cuddly toys and dolls left in the family's home village of Rothley, Leics, during search for the four-year-old after she went missing in Portugal.

"Inevitably it is a disappointment," she said. "I think they are very philosophical about it because it's happened so many times.

"Just suppose Madeleine is in Morocco, what does that mean? You just have to keep on.

"We are still keeping on with the campaign.

"If this sighting doesn't prove to be anything it doesn't matter, because the toys are still going to the children who need them."

Friends of the McCanns have pleaded to holidaymakers to continue their search for missing Madeleine.
