Gerry and Kate McCann may conduct own tests on hire car and will not be using money in their missing daughter's fund to legal costs.
Gerry and Kate McCann may conduct own tests on the hire car that is the subject of new investigations in the disappearance of their four-year-old daughter Madeleine.
Gerry and Kate McCann have also decided against trying to use money in their missing daughter's fund to their legal costs.
The couple have hired what lawyers described to Channel 4 News as "a very expensive legal team" in Portugal and Britain after being named as official suspects in the case.
"I can confirm we are not seeking support from the fund. There is nothing else today."David Hughes, McCanns' spokesman
Maddy funds won't be used
There has also been subsequent speculation they wanted to use some of the donated money to finance their legal costs if they are charged in connection with Madeleine's disappearance - their campaign fund has raised more than a million pounds.
However, the McCanns' spokesman David Hughes said today that they had ruled this out because they did not want to upset any donors.
The trustees of the fund set up to help find Madeleine also confirmed that the McCanns would not be using any of the money for their legal costs - although they believed they would be legally entitled to do so.
Evidence
In the Algave, a Portuguese judge has begun to read a 4,000 dossier of evidence against the McCanns, a task that could take him weeks. He alone will decide if they are charged.
