Karadzic plans to conduct own defence at Hague war crimes tribunal

Updated on 23 July 2008

By Jonathan Miller

Radovan Karadzic plans to conduct his own defence at the war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Karadzic was finally captured on Monday after more than a decade on the run. He had lived openly in Belgrade under an assumed name, and heavily disguised.

Today his lawyer said he had had a haircut and shaved off the long white beard which had made him unrecognisable for so long.
