IPCC launches second G20 inquiry
Updated on 15 April 2009
A Metropolitan police officer is suspended after he was filmed slapping a female protester with the back of his hand and then striking her with his baton.
The independent Police Complaints Commission has launched an inquiry into the incident, the second such inquiry into how the police handled protesters during the G20 demonstrations earlier this month.
The fresh evidence raises further questions about the tactics used following the death of Ian Tomlinson, who had a heart attack after being struck with a baton and pushed to the ground by police on the previous day.
The footage, which was originally posted on YouTube, shows the officer apparently retaliating by striking the woman on her face after she had taunted him.
