The area of Liverpool where the shooting of 11-year-old Rhys Jones happened has a long history of gang feuds, with the so-called Croxteth Crew challenging youngsters in nearby Norris Green.

A report earlier this year identified the city as the easiest place in Britain to buy an illegal gun, along with neighbouring Manchester.
