What does the spate of gun crimes say about our community?

As Labour and the Tories argue over what the spate of teenage gun murders in south London says about society; a special report from the neighbourhood, where friends of Billy Cox are defending his memory.

Tragic beyond belief - but not a metaphor for the state of British society: Tony Blair has hinted at new laws to combat gun crime and inner city gangs - following the murders of three South London teenagers.

He was speaking after the Conservative leader David Cameron said the deaths were a symptom of family breakdown:

But while political leaders offered rival explanations - the father of Billy Cox - shot in his Clapham home on Wednesday - called on the community to help police catch the killers.

Throughout the area - police have stepped up their patrols - including armed officers, horses and rapid response vehicles. Lindsay Taylor reports.
