Crime down 9 per cent, but knife offences reach 20,000

New government figures show a 9 per cent dip in recorded offences.

But the statistics on knife crime, which has dominated the headlines this year, are more ambiguous.

There were more than 20,000 knife offences last year. But this is the first time those numbers have been compiled.
